While some makeup artists draw inspiration from fan-favorite movies and anime series, others look to historic events to fuel their creative fire. Case in point: A UK-based MUA by the name of Martha Butterworth recently came up with a creation inspired by Victory in Europe Day, which for those who don't know, falls on May 8 and celebrates the official end of World War II.
Unlike the majority of her makeup looks, this one isn't on her eyes, but rather her ears, which makes it all the more unique and interesting. "I was inspired by old wartime posters whilst exploring all things VE Day-related," Butterworth tells Allure in an email. "So I decided to do a small 'We’ll Meet Again' series, which has such a strong resonance at the moment with the COVID-19 pandemic… We are all missing our loved ones but taking pleasure in home-cooking and other creative endeavors."
The mini makeup series includes three colorful creations: one that features an old lady ironing Union Jack, aka the UK's national flag, one with a woman "digging for victory" in a garden of vegetables, and one with a couple embracing one another in a cloudy sky with planes. Each of them is intricately hand-drawn by Butterworth and incredibly detailed. She even went as far as to include fake steam coming from the woman's iron.
We're not the only ones who are impressed by Butterworth's skills. Fans are showing their love for the look, leaving comments like, "💕Love this 😍💕," "So creative 😍😍," and "This is BEYOND amazing!"
We'd have to agree. Throw Butterworth a follow on Instagram to show your support — and amass some seriously cool makeup inspiration.
